What We Test and Balance
Chlorine (Sanitizer)
The active sanitizer keeping bacteria and algae in check. Alabama heat and direct sun burn through chlorine fast, and a pool that tested fine last week can be unprotected by the next.
pH
When pH drifts high, chlorine stops working effectively and scale forms. When it drifts low, water turns aggressive and starts eating plaster, grout, and metal equipment components. It moves constantly and needs regular correction.
Total Alkalinity
Alkalinity buffers pH and keeps it from swinging wildly. Get this wrong and you’ll chase pH every single week without ever stabilizing it.
Cyanuric Acid (Stabilizer)
Stabilizer protects chlorine from burning off in sunlight, but too much locks chlorine up and renders it ineffective — a condition often mistaken for needing more chlorine. We monitor it and tell you when the real fix is partial draining rather than more product.
Calcium Hardness
Too low and the water pulls calcium out of your plaster and grout. Too high and you get scale on surfaces, in the heater, and inside the salt cell.
Salt Levels
For saltwater pools, we verify salt concentration and check that the cell is producing properly. Low salt is one of the most common reasons a salt system appears to have failed when it hasn’t.
Testing That Actually Guides Treatment
A test strip glanced at from the deck isn’t water management. We take proper readings across the full panel, because the numbers interact — alkalinity governs pH stability, stabilizer governs chlorine effectiveness, and treating one in isolation is how pools end up chronically off.
Anything beyond routine correction — heavy algaecide for a serious bloom, phosphate remover, stain treatment, or a large stabilizer correction — gets explained to you before we do it.
